THE DESTRUCTIVE TOOL OF MECHANIZATION
(2003-2019)
“The destructive tool of mechanization” was an expression used by the artist Paul Strand when he warned about the risks of industrialization and mechanization in the 1920s.
In 2003 I started this project inspired by the pristine and sharp photographs of machines that he took at the beginning of the 20th century. Paul Strand has been an inspiration as a visual artist, researcher, and human being. It was till 2018 that I decided to review this work and think about what is the narrative behind these photographs. The Augmented Reality piece is a response inspired by Strand and pretends to question our thoughts about mechanization and work. In this sense, to understand what is behind this artwork it is important to keep in mind and contextualize the terms of actuality films, essay films, and the points of view of Paul Strand and Harun Farocki. |
